This is a rare species, endemic to Boeotia. It is a remnant of the ancient ichthyofauna of the eastern Greek peninsula. It has disappeared from the river Asopos and only occurs in a few sites within the Boeotikos Kifisos basin, possibly also in lake Yliki.
