A robust, heavily built lark, with a large bill that has a yellow lower mandible base. It has a heavily streaked breast, a broad buff supercilium and a small crest, usually raised in alarm or when singing. Endemic to southern Africa, it is common in grassland, scrubland and agricultural lands.
